Washroom Facilities at Iroquois Park

Attention Mayor's Office:
On Wednesday June 4th 2025 5:45 PM a Ask the Mayor form was submitted by Calvin Kafka. The reference number is 2025-06-04-061.

Hi Marianne,

I hope all is well I just wanted to thank you for the kind words in your address to our soccer club our 40 th year last year. I wanted to comment on a concern I have with washroom facilities at our primary park Iroquois. As you know most of our players men and women will need to relieve themselves on game days. Many of our players have had prostate issues and reliving themselves is necessary. Ccurrently we have no facilities to do so other then around a tree or along neighboring fence lines. Myself having being a survivor of prostate cancer the running around will stir things up and relief is necessary. I was wondering if you can look into a solution to this concern. I am sure there is a way we can make this happen for all and this would solve neighboring property owners complaints.

Thanks Calvin

Mailbox, Office of the Mayor

Hi Calvin,

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback and experience. I shared your message with the Mayor and she is glad to hear that you enjoy staying active, and certainly understands the need for facilities in parks.

Our office received information from the Roads, Parks & Forestry team regarding washroom facilities in parks as this is an item that is brought to us from time to time. The feedback received was that although a few sites throughout the City have portable washroom options, there is currently no available budget for additional portable washroom facilities. Through a number of corporate initiatives, namely the Live and Play Plan and the Parks Provisioning Master Plan, the City is developing ways to guide decision-making related to recreational facilities, including park washrooms.

As your request for washroom facilities in Iroquois park is adding to this work, I am including Service Burlington here to channel your message to the City’s Roads, Parks & Forestry team, for their consideration and inclusion in their planning.

As always, our office is standing by to support where appropriate, and look forward to receiving future updates on this item.

In closing, I want to let you know that the Mayor understands the complications and challenges that comes with Prostate Cancer, and joined MPP Wayne Gates in advocating with the Provincial Government to have PSA testing covered by OHIP. Please read more here.

Wishing you all the best for an enjoyable playing season.
Kind regards,

Hannelie van Niekerk | Executive Administrator
