With broken hearts we announce the passing of our husband, dad, grandad and papa, Lewis Wing, after a brief battle with mesothelioma. Lewis passed peacefully at home, on January 16, 2023, with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Joan (nee Appleton) for 55 years. A strong and loving dad of Jeanette (John) Trakalo of Brantford, Louise (Lee) Walmsley of Oakwood, Graham (Cheryl) of Burlington.
A brave and supportive granddad and papa to Christopher, Amy (Reed), Nathan, Ryan, Keira, and Quinton. Lewis will be missed by his sisters, Pauline (Colin) Kearton, Marilyn (David) King, Janice (Ralph) Ferguson, Norma (Alan) Stephenson, and Judith (David) Beattie. He is predeceased by his parents, Freda Payne (nee Turner) and Ronald Wing, and his in-laws, Margaret (Peggy) and Richard (Harry) Appleton.
Lewis will be remembered by many families, friends, and colleagues in Ontario, Nova Scotia, England, and Australia. Lewis was born in Middlesbrough, England and married the love of his life in May 1967. He and Joan brought their three young children to Canada in 1977 and have resided in Burlington since. Lewis enjoyed playing in the dart leagues, old timers soccer club, and occasionally softball, and had a passion for building, fixing, and creating. Lewis was always there to help friends and family and touched everyone he knew. He will be fondly remembered to many as "Big Lew".
Visitation was held at Smith's Funeral Home 1167 Guelph Line [one stoplight north of QEW], Burlington [905-632-3333], on Friday, January 20 from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, January 21, from 12 to 1 p.m. Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. with reception immediately following until 4 p.m. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to a Charity of Your Choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
